developer-jobs.io is now a thing

During a recent episode of the ol' pod, we were looking at the revamped homepage of PostHog's website. It reminded me of my first days with a visual OS — OS/2 Warp (yes, I'm that old).

A few evenings of tinkering later, I've created something somewhat inspired by that: a retro OS-inspired job board in the browser. Say hello to developer-jobs.io. To be fair, it probably more resembles HaikuOS than OS2/Warp at this stage, but so be it.

Building this has been fun, and going forward it is a good ground for me to unleash my code fiddlings every now and then. But of course, it only really works if there are actual jobs listed. I'm considering two approaches to overcome this cold start problem:

  1. Posting in "share your jobs" communities to get some eyeballs on it
  2. Scraping relevant job sites (while keeping content curated)

I'm also not particularly in a rush, so let's see how we tackle this going forward.

Long term? I'd love for the jobs to be added organically by an employer community.

There's also a single (somewhat on the nose) ad at the moment. I plan to expand this to hold about three AdSense placements once we have actual traffic. I don't need to profit from the site, but covering cloud costs would be nice 🤷
