Apparently I live the type of live that has me removing backgrounds from pictures every other month or so.
Is seems I am also too stingy to pay for a subscription for any of these so called "test me for free but if you actually wanna use me for anything relevant you have to pay" services.
So I created bgremover.xyz, an actually free image background remover. Taking credit for this is a bit much though, it's basically just a wrapper around img.ly their amazing background-removal-js package.
A cool tidbit is that it works completely client-side in your browser (it leverages ONNX runtime).
It seems to work very well on actual pictures, it works so-so on digital art.
Have fun removing backgrounds, because who needs backgrounds anyway?
